Standardized Test Scores

IOWA Testing

In the spring of each year all of our Kindergarten through 8th grade students take the IOWA Test.  IOWA is a national standardized test designed to assess student achievement in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, vocabulary, and spelling.  Standardized tests can give us valuable and unbiased information about students’ knowledge in these areas.  Combined with classroom performance and teacher observations, standardized tests can provide us with insight into students’ mastery of skills, and help us improve our teaching methods and curriculum.

The following charts show how our students performed on the IOWA test compared to other children enrolled in Christian schools nationwide.  The first bar shows the grade level norm, where students in that grade are expected to score in each content area.  The following data shows how students at Tabernacle scored in each content area.  For example, a student in the first grade would be expected to score in reading at 1.7, meaning a first grader in the seventh month.  Tabernacle students in the first grade scored in reading at an average grade level equivalent of 2.9, meaning they performed on the test the same way a second grader in the ninth month of school would score.
