This summer, Tabernacle launched its inaugural VEX IQ Robotics Camp, welcoming 17 enthusiastic students to an exciting week of building, coding, and competing with our brand-new VEX IQ robotic kits. The camp was a vibrant hub of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning, as young innovators dove into the world of robotics with energy and excitement.
The campers hit the ground running, learning to construct and modify their VEX IQ robots from scratch. From assembling sturdy frames to tweaking designs for optimal performance, they explored the mechanics of robotics with curiosity and determination. Coding was a key focus, as students programmed their robots to tackle challenges, honing their problem-solving skills and gaining confidence in computational thinking. The camp fostered an environment where trial, error, and iteration became the building blocks of success.
The camp buzzed with energy during a series of small competitions that kept the students engaged and eager to test their creations. The real highlights, however, were the two main events: Robot Soccer and Robot Tug O’ War. In Robot Soccer, teams strategized and programmed their robots to maneuver a ‘ball’ across a field, blending coding with quick thinking. Robot Tug O’ War brought out fierce but friendly rivalries, as campers optimized their robots for strength and stability to out-pull their opponents. These competitions weren’t just about winning—they were about collaboration, communication, and celebrating each other’s successes.
Every camper walked away with a swag bag packed with goodies, including customized notebooks and exclusive Robotics Camp T-shirts. These keepsakes served as a reminder of the skills gained, friendships formed, and the thrill of watching their robots come to life.
Beyond the technical skills, the “On the Move” Robotics Camp nurtured creativity, teamwork, and communication. Students learned to brainstorm together, troubleshoot challenges, and share ideas, building not just robots but also lasting connections.
