Our art teacher, Mrs. Downing, has created a special program to celebrate student achievement in art. After projects are complete, she selects Student Artists of the Week; one student out of each of her seventeen classes who has shown excellence in effort, creativity, and following instructions during their art projects.
At the end of each month, Mrs. Downing chooses one standout student from her Artist of the Week selections to be honored as the Artist of the Month. This wonderful idea originated from our very own Mrs. Kelli! What began as a small bulletin board display in Mrs. Downing’s Art Room, has grown also into an Artist of the Month recognition.
Mrs. Downing explains, “I look for artists who follow instructions, and work hard while producing great artwork.” The chosen artist’s work is proudly displayed in the cafeteria for everyone to enjoy. In addition, the Artist of the Month receives a free dress pass and a special surprise from Mrs. Downing.
We are excited to congratulate 6th grader, Mackenna L., our first Artist of the Month for September!
