Oktigerfest Brings Competition and Fun to Tabernacle

Oktigerfest is a new and improved event for Tabernacle. There were many fun and exciting things that happened on October 31. At each station on the field, two teams competed against each other to win the challenge.

There was the Balloon Toss, where students had to toss water balloons to their partners, with the distance getting longer after every successful toss. The Bell Relay challenged middle schoolers to run across a short distance, with less and less time to catch their breath after each sprint. The Push-Up Challenge tested even the strongest students. Tug-of-War was a game where two teams had to pull a rope and get the flag across the other team’s line. Tiger Tag was a game where students paired up, with one student chasing the other and trying to pull their flag. Tiger Tracks involved a large wheel that could hold only four students at a time as they raced to the other side. Once they reached the other side, the first four students had to get out, and a new group of four continued the race.

Balloon Toss

In Balloon Toss, students faced their partners and tossed a water balloon back and forth as many times as they could without it bursting. After every successful pass, they had to take a step backward. In this game, the team with the most coordination and teamwork had the best chance of winning.

Bell Relay

The Bell Relay wasn’t much of a challenge at first, but it became harder when the time to catch their breath was shortened. The rest time went from 10 seconds to 8 seconds and then to only 5 seconds. Once the pace started getting faster, people were giving up left and right. At the end of the game, the number of students who lasted until the end determined how many points their team received. This game was all about endurance and trying your hardest.

Push-Up Challenge

The Push-Up Challenge started with five push-ups and then a short break. Next came ten push-ups, followed by fifteen. Finally, the students with the most persistence were able to complete 20 push-ups. Then came the hardest part: students had to hold a regular plank for one minute and, without a break, switch to a high plank for another minute. Everybody’s core was tired after that challenge! It really tested everyone’s strength and endurance.

Tug-of-War

Tug-of-War was a match that involved a lot of teamwork and unison. The teams had to pull the flag across the other team’s line to win the round. In the first round, each team had to sit one team member out. In the second round, that teammate came back in, and a different student had to sit out. There were a total of three rounds that tested the teams’ persistence and strength. The teams that triumphed in the end used strategy and teamwork to win.

Tiger Tag

Tiger Tag was a mini-game where students paired up, and one student had to chase the other and pull their flag to beat the other team. There were bleachers and pool noodles set up as obstacles that the runner could use to help get away from the tagger. The taggers and runners were chosen equally so that the game would be balanced and fair.

Tiger Tracks

Tiger Tracks was a game where students had to move inside a large wheel and beat the other team to the other side. This game was tricky because everyone had to stay inside the wheel. If anyone stepped out, the entire group had to start over. After the first four students reached the other side, the rest of their team was waiting to switch out. Each group could only have four students in the wheel at a time. This game was challenging because it involved a lot of teamwork and synchronization to win.

Oktigerfest was a very exciting and fun experience. Students had a chance to do something different that made their week better. It was a fun and exciting way to exercise, work as a team, and build friendships.
